The aim of the Hochschule für Gestaltung was to improve the world through quality design in all aspects of human society. This idea prompted the High Commissary of the USA in Germany to support the building and the realization of the college financially as a crucial contribution to the renovation of society in post-war Germany.

The three years I studied at the college were decisive for my future development. The first year curriculum was very broad and included a lot of new ideas. The study of colour theory and the perception and interaction of colours was one of the most important subjects for me. Also, the study and the application of the Gestalt laws were an eye-opener.

Another very important event was the meeting of my future husband, the Dutch architect Bertus Mulder.
